Garlic-Gruyere Mashed Potatoes

6 medium potatoes
3/4 cup hot milk or cream
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup softened butter
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp ground red pepper
1 garlic clove minced
1/4 cup shredded Gruyere Cheese
2 green onions

Peel Potatoes, cut into 1-inch cubes. Boil in water to cover for 15 minutes. Drain. Mash potatoes. Stir in milk and next five ingredients till blended. Stir in cheese, thinly sliced green onions and ham.
